Number 1 – Steam in the sauna
Believe it or not, sweating is very good for you, but don’t worry you don’t have to do a hard-core exercise to get all those sweaty toxins out of your body. You can get a very similar health boost by simply sitting naked in a sauna, well, you don’t have to be completely naked but try to be as close as possible without making yourself uncomfortable. A 2015 study in JAMA Internal Medicine took a look at over 2k middle-aged men who frequented saunas. I am sure you know exactly who I am talking about. The study ran for over 20 years and found that those who went to the sauna more regularly had a lower risk of heart failure and coronary artery disease than those who didn’t go as much. The researchers believe that the sweating and heat increase your heart rate similarly to light exercise.
Number 2 – Blowing off steam when angry is actually not so good for you.
I know what you’re thinking when you hear this, it’s better to let it all out than to hold it in, right? I completely understand but unfortunately no. It is not. According to a study done in 2015 getting very angry comes with an increased heart risk. In fact, people who have had an angry outburst increased their chance of a heart attack by 8.5 fold for 2 hours following the outburst. So remember the next time you feel your inner hulk coming out, take a deep breath, count back from ten and do your woosa’s.
Number 3 – Marinate your red meat.
When grilled or heated at high temperatures, beef forms several suspected carcinogens. However, with a nice marinade you won’t have to worry as much when eating your next filet. Marinating beef with fresh lemon juice before cooking it at high temperatures was shown to cut carcinogens by up to 70%. Another study found that a marinade with thyme, red pepper, black pepper, allspice, rosemary and chives cut suspected human carcinogens by up to 88%. So make sure to marinade your meat in some delicious spices before cooking.
Number 4 – Don’t eat to much red meat
OK. So I know we just talked about marinating your beef which is very important however I would like to say that just because you marinate it doesn’t mean you should eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A Harvard University Study showed that overeating red meat can lead to a shorter life. Researchers found that for every 3 ounces of meat eaten each day, a person’s risk of death by cardiovascular disease shot up. On the other hand, another study showed that a vegetarian diet lowered risk of death by 12%. Now you do not need to give up steaks entirely, however, you should enjoy red meat in moderation and up your intake of veggies.
Number 5 – Give and get lots of love
According to researchers touch is very important to our health, but how important is it? A study that was done using different types of massage found that the patients who had deep tissue massages as opposed to a lighter massage had their white blood cell count went up at the same time their cortisol levels went down. Now, what is even more amazing is when the touch is from someone you love those numbers increase even more. Scientists have found that you can actually increase your immunity with every embrace from a loved one or your partner.
Number 6 – Don’t smoke
I am sure you have heard this a million times before but in case you need another reason not to smoke. A study that was published in 2015 found that smoking may be responsible for far more deaths than the ones it gets credit for. When researchers analyzed the causes of death among smokers and eliminated diseases that are currently linked to smoking they found that 17% were due to other causes. However, they say once you completely stop the habit of smoking the risks of getting these diseases drops dramatically.
